From Gum Sales to Omega Metalworks: Mason’s Journey of Redemption and Resilience

Show Notes

In a world where appearances can be deceiving, Mason’s story is a striking testament to the transformative power of redemption, resilience, and faith. Featured in the Exceptional Companies Podcast, Mason’s life journey is anything but ordinary. Host Chris Seegers skillfully navigates this tale, drawing out lessons that resonate with entrepreneurs and faith-driven leaders.

Early Entrepreneurial Spirit

Mason’s entrepreneurial spark ignited Young. From melting zinc for nickels—a venture he learned was counterfeiting—to selling gum in junior high, he embodied the hustle of a budding businessman. Raised in a church environment, he had an early awareness of right and wrong, though his pursuits often blurred those lines. This tension set the stage for later struggles.

By high school in Las Vegas, his ventures escalated. Excelling academically with a 4.3 GPA, he balanced risky endeavors. At 17, a fallout with his parents led him to live with drug dealers, setting the stage for a lucrative but morally bankrupt phase. By graduation, Mason earned $40,000 a month through cannabis sales, fueled by deception and excess.

A Life of Contradictions

Despite financial success, Mason’s life was marked by emptiness. While pursuing a civil engineering degree and working at a Fortune 500 company, he maintained the facade of a model citizen. Beneath, he juggled properties and a drug business. His double life extended to music, where he used illicit funds to advance his band’s career.

By 2008, cracks in Mason’s facade showed. His band, plagued by addiction issues, mirrored his personal chaos. Despite outward success, Mason was spiritually and emotionally bankrupt, prompting a return to his church roots.

Redemption Through Faith

Mason’s turning point came at Central Christian Church in Las Vegas. Raised in the church, he now approached his faith with urgency. In a tearful moment, he confessed to his mother, declaring intent to leave his destructive lifestyle. This pivotal decision marked a journey back to morality.

With parental support, Mason entered Colorado’s legal cannabis industry, opening dispensaries. Yet, this chapter proved unsatisfying. By 2012, he exited, recognizing it misaligned with his values. A stint in hydroponics followed, culminating in a fateful client encounter leading to his arrest and 30 transformative days in jail.

From Prison to Purpose

Jail became an unlikely crucible for spiritual growth. Leading a Bible study that grew from four participants to half the pod, Mason earned the nickname “Padre.” Relying on memory and scripture, this experience solidified his commitment to faith.

Upon release, Mason’s finances were depleted, and his reputation tarnished. Yet, he emerged with renewed purpose. A chance steel company job introduced him to metal fabrication. Starting at the bottom, Mason’s skills propelled him to leadership.

The Birth of Omega Metalworks

In 2021, Mason co-founded Omega Metalworks with Joe. Named with a nod to Alpha and Omega, the company embodies faith-driven entrepreneurship. Built on principles of transparency, integrity, and stewardship, Omega surpassed growth expectations, achieving over $5 million in revenue within a few years.

Reflecting on his journey, Mason emphasizes aligning business goals with faith. “God didn’t give me this company to make me wealthy,” he shares. “He gave it as an opportunity to serve and steward His blessings.”
